Our Impact

2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the Henry II and Mildred A. Uihlein Foundation as a philanthropic resource for the Lake Placid region.  Here are just a few of the accomplishments and projects that have been suppported:

Mid’s Park/Paul White Memorial Bandshell

The Uihlein Foundation funded the renovation of the bandshell park on Main Street which was dedicated in 2005 as Mid’s Park in honor of Mid’s vision to save that land. In 2014, the Foundation also supported the reconstruction of the Paul White Memorial Bandshell.
“The Uihlein legacy certainly has played a significant role in the growth and conservation of Lake Placid.  We are confident that Mrs. Uihlein would have been pleased with the plans to preserve this important open space and proud to know that her vision has made a difference. The community will be a better place because of the Uihlein Foundation’s investment.” -Roby Politi, former Mayor of Lake Placid

Northwood School

Uihlein Scholarship Fund for local Students-“Scholarship opportunities created by the Uihlein Foundation have been a vital part of our long range plan. Through this fund we continue to strengthen our scholarship assistance programs giving more local people the opportunity to attend Northwood. The Henry Uihlein Foundation Scholarship Fund is the flagship of that effort.” -Perry Babcock, former Development Director

USA Luge

“During my 11-year tenure as CEO of USA Luge the Uihlein Foundation and its Board of Directors were, and still are, a vital source of funding for several of our technical sled projects.  When analyzing the elements needed to build a World Class/Olympic sled, items like computer aided design software (CAD), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), wind tunnel testing to study fluid air flow and aerodynamic as well as the raw materials needed to build those sleds, the need for funding remains very critical.

When USA Luge met with the Uihlein Board to request funds fo a particular technical project, I was always amazed at the level of enthusiasm and engagement the Fountain always had in exploring how to help us best.  Their vision of helping us build best-in-class equipment matched our own vision.  The Uihlein Foundation is truly interested in helping our team reach its full potential and in doing so helping our athletes achieve their dreams of winning medals for TEAM USA. I am forever grateful for not only the funding provided by the Uihlein Foundation that helped make USA Luge a fiercer global competitor in the sport of luge, but for their genuine concern in making us a better organization.” —Jim Leahy, Former CEO of USA Luge

Uihlein Ironman Sports Fund at Adirondack Foundation

“We are so fortunate to live in a region with a rich Olympic history and great opportunity to participate in traditional Olympic sports. Our local athletes make many sacrifices to pursue their dreams in these disciplines and this often leads to financial hurdles as they train and compete. We are proud that support from the Uihlein-Ironman Sports Fund helps remove some of those barriers so these young competitors can focus on their goals.” Martha Bullock, UISF Committee Member

The Uihlein-Ironman Sports Fund is also committed to strengthening organizations that enhance access and participation in local sports and recreation. There are so many opportunities for kids to get outdoors and be active, but money can still be an obstacle. We are grateful to the many organizations that have received grants over the years for being proactive in introducing youth and families to life-long sports.
