Tablelands Farm
The Uihlein Foundation’s upcoming project on Bear Cub Lane aims to develop a working educational farm that brings agriculture back to the land.
Tablelands Farm, originally a working farm in the early 20th century, housed dairy cattle and some of the area’s largest Victory Gardens during World War II serving as a source of food for farmers, guests of the former Lake Placid Club, and beyond. It was transformed into a research center in 1961 for seed potatoes.
The re-creation of Tablelands Farm would reintroduce agricultural production, a local food source, and hands-on educational experiences for people of all ages and abilities. It could also serve as a workforce development center, educating future farmers and sharing agricultural knowledge and practices.
The farm will prioritize working with nature, using best practices to maintain the land and its resources. Building on the Motus Wildlife Tracking Station, it plans to add a bird banding station, study wildlife cohabitation, and develop sustainable agricultural practices.
The Uihlein Foundation is collaborating with agricultural community consultants to create a master plan for the project’s implementation and future. We look forward to sharing Tablelands Farm with our local community and preserving its rich history.
